Hotel Barken Viking

Hotel Barken Viking

Indulge in a Night on the Historic Barken Viking

Immerse yourself in history by spending a night aboard the renowned Barken Viking, a floating museum that dates back to its construction in 1907 in Copenhagen. This unique vessel is one of only 14 four-masted barques globally, originally crafted to train future sailors for Denmark’s expanding fleet.

In 1909, Barken Viking set a speed record, reaching 15.5 knots while transporting wheat from Australia. The ship encountered a stroke of luck in 1917 when it was boarded by a German vessel but later released. As Germany shifted to unrestricted marine warfare, the vessel faced potential peril. The Barken Viking participated in various races, traversing from Australia to Cornwall, and completed a circumnavigation in 1937-38.

Arriving in Sweden in 1950, this maritime relic now offers a unique opportunity for an overnight stay. The rooms, though compact due to the ship’s nature, are adorned by renowned marine artist Frantz Glatzl and feature modern amenities like TVs. The onboard restaurant serves delectable cuisine, and with the city center in proximity, your stay promises both comfort and convenience. As you settle in for the night, envision the countless voyages and adventures that have defined the storied legacy of the Barken Viking.
