Winter Harbor Yacht Club, Maine

In the summer seven Winter Harbor Knockabouts lie together on their moorings in front of the Yacht Club, which they have been doing nearly every summer since they were delivered in 1907. It is believed that they are the oldest complete fleet of one-designs in the country. Built at the Burgess and Packard yard in Marblehead, they were designed by Starling Burgess, to the specs of the Yacht Club members the most important of which was to “be able to get home in any weather.” Two more boats were added to the fleet in 1922. They are 30 feet overall and 21 feet on the water line and are sometimes called Winter Harbor 21’s. They are owned by individual yacht club members and race every Saturday day at 2 pm during July and August.
