Gråsten Sailing Club was founded in 1929 by a number of Gråsteners who were interested in racing. At that time, they had houses in various places in Gråsten, including in the former spa hotel – now Arthritis Hospital. The bridge construction was located next to the slaughterhouse.
During the war, you were not allowed to sail outside Egernsund, which is why the races were limited to Nybøl Nor.
For a number of years it was the dinghies who dominated the club. Back then, there was space at the harbor in Egernsund and here a strong group of racers developed, mainly sailing in pirate dinghies.
In the late fifties, when the optimist dinghy appeared, a number of dinghies were built for young sailors in Egernsund, Alnor and Gråsten, and that was the beginning of the club’s junior work.
