The Gilford Park Yacht Club (GPYC) was established in 1930 and incorporated August 9, 1933 but our genesis and story began many years before that date.
John Gilford purchased the land later known as Gilford Park in the early 1700’s. The land was later deeded to the Barnegat Woodland Corporation; which until it disbanded in 1998 was considered the oldest corporation in America, originating in 1682. This predated the founding of the State of New Jersey! Barnegat Woodland Corp. owned all or part of the land from Dingman’s Ferry in Pennsylvania to Long Beach Island, New Jersey including up to Ellis Island.
