promote knowledge and understanding of the maritime future of Chile among civilians and sea professionals and make Chileans aware of the vast future that Chile’s unexplored maritime territory represents for the country and foreigners of the great sports, industrial and tourist possibilities of the innate insular region of our country. It took 10 years for the Brotherhood to materialize into something concrete and this was largely due to the shallowness of the roadstead in front of the Algarrobo Yacht Club, which prevented the anchoring of larger sailboats. This is how in 1977 the construction of the Algarrobo marina began, joining the Pájaros Niños Islet – which in 1978 was declared a nature sanctuary – with the mainland and also building a similar extension arm to the north to provide adequate shelter for boats. The works were definitively inaugurated on September 22, 1979.
