The history of the Algarrobo Yacht Club dates back to 1939, when the Spa was taking its first steps and Don Carlos Alessandri, owner of the “Las Papas” farm that extended to the south of the small town of Algarrobo, donated to a group of enthusiastic friends , the privileged portion of the beach with calm waters, naturally protected by the rocks of the Islas Bajas. They soon built a cozy Club House and a pier that allowed those early sailors to board. The formalization as an Institution came in 1945, when its statutes were approved and its first Board of Directors was constituted, formed by Mr. Fernando Mardones Restat, as President and Tomás RodrÃguez Alliende as Treasurer, Fernando Vives, Franck Westcott and Eduardo Reyes as Directors. This is how the traditional Algarrobo Yacht Club starts. Soon its bay begins to fill with the sails of the small Snipes, the gaffs of the Yolas del Elba and the large cotton sails that moved the heavy double-prowed wooden hulls. After the hard days and after anchoring in its sheltered pool, the happy camaraderie of this nascent Club was already enjoyed, which would soon become the main nautical center in the country and the cradle of most of the consecrated sailors of our
