The Club Nautico Versilia, founded in 1957, was the first sports club for pleasure boating created in the port of Viareggio, used mainly by merchant or fishing boats until then. This was due to the far-sightedness of a group of sea enthusiasts who, in the first post-war period, sensed that pleasure craft would favor the city’s future shipyards and tourism, which allowed the Versilia Nautical Club, after the historic Clubs of Naples, Genoa, Palermo, Venice and Trieste to become one of the first nautical clubs in Italy
