Club Marítim Altafulla

At the end of 1972, a group of members of the Club Nàutic Altafulla became aware that the future Coastal Law would not only prevent us from growing but that the Club building would be demolished, as it happened, and it was necessary to move to another place that was not affected by this Law.

Faced with the incredulity of most members of the Board and members, a few thought that it was necessary to create another Club on its own grounds, and with ambition for the future. On June 30, 1973, a management company chaired by Mr. Eduardo Navarrete was set up, and on August 13 of the same year, 5,400 m2 of land with sea frontage were purchased. A referendum among the future partners to say NO to the swimming pool and YES to the rapid construction of a tennis court and the building, in view of the project carried out by Mr. Pedro J. González and Mr. Jorge Robert.

The bylaws quickly approved by the Catalan Federation, were capped at Espanyola, since its general secretary was being pressured by people who told him that there could not be two Clubs in the same town. They spoke with D. Miguel Company, president of the Spanish Federation who quickly resolved the issue and the statutes were approved on September 9, 1973 with number 3762.

On September 11, 1973, the foundation stone was laid and on June 18, 1977, with the presence of the civil, naval, local and sports authorities, the Club building was blessed by the Rector of Altafulla, Mossèn Francesc Castellà, inaugurating its facilities, with Mr. Jorge Robert Cinquè as its president. What has happened so far, its regattas, trophies, competitions, social events and other celebrations, as well as the improvements in its equipment must be attributed to the Boards of Directors that under the mandate of D.José Ignacio Cellier, Xavier Cadiz, D. Ramón Sala, Josep Calabuig, Xavier Puig, Xavier Simó and Joan Sanfeliu have selflessly put their effort into the improvement of this Club known today as Marítim Altafulla.
