The diffusion of sailing culture has been the main purpose of the Club since its foundation, which took place in 1951 by Count Carlo Ponzani together with a group of friends who are passionate about boats and the sea. The aims of the association were addressed, then, above all to the diffusion of activities connected to sailing and motor boating. The limitations of the small Langano port of the time allowed only a limited number of buoy moorings for the boats of a part of the Members. The Board of Directors of the Circolo Nautico Rapallo through its various presidents (Ponzani, Pauly, Arrigoni, Gioacchini) always exercised a constructive action of stimulation at local and national level to expand the accommodation capacities at sea.
Essential and fundamental was the initiative of the president Nino Arrigoni for the construction of the current Porto Carlo Riva. In addition to recreational and social activities, the Club stimulated sailing school courses for students and sponsored regattas for different classes of boats, hosting and promoting visits, visits and exchanges with national nautical associations. Famous in the 60s was the Snipe Class Regatta valid for the awarding of the “Coppa d’oro Scognamiglio” trophy in which the best crews of the class participated for many years. In the 70s the construction of Porto Carlo Riva in Rapallo slowed down a lot the activity of the club. In 1976 the reorganization of Porto Langano allowed the expansion of the number of moorings under concession through the installation of a floating pier and the resumption of sporting activity. Activity that had considerable development in the youth sector with the Laser, Dinghy 12p., 470, 420, Europa Classes. Under the presidency of Eng. Gianluigi Brancaccio, the Circolo Nautico Rapallo, awarded the “Bronze Star for Sports Merit” by CONI, has set itself up with a more suitable location in the small port of Rapallo. Currently the club has about 250 members, a series of important structures and has qualified technical personnel able to manage any sporting initiative.
