Cedar Mills Yacht Club was founded in 1981 by a handful of refugees from Lake Grapevine in Dallas, Texas. According to former member Dick Wheeler, “The Club was founded by a group of Grapevine Lake refugees all right, of which I was one. But the year was 1979, not 1981 and the reason was excessively LOW water… in [Lake] Grapevine… not high. The Club was known briefly as the “Texoma Fleet of the Grapevine Sailing Club.” Eventually, several of those intrepid souls did found Cedar Mills Yacht Club at Cedar Mills Marina on Lake Texoma.
Lake Texoma was impounded in 1944 and is located on the Texas Oklahoma border. With a surface area of 89,000 acres and 580 miles of shoreline, it is the twelfth largest manmade lake in the country. The lake is located approximately one hour north of Dallas, Texas and two and one half hours south of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Nearby cities include: Sherman and Dennison Texas, and Durant, Oklahoma.
The clubhouse is located on the Cedar Mills Marina property just 100 yards south of the Ship’s Store near the marina’s center cove. The club provides showers, a small kitchen, a lending library, Wi-Fi service, HDTV and a fireplace! Members can also enjoy the use of a large deck with BBQ grills and smokers for weekend grilling!
