Powerboating Courses For Women

Women's Boating Courses

Sea Sense, the women’s sailing & powerboating school is offering a new three-day, hands-on liveaboard course, as well as the traditional five-day, all-women powerboating courses in Sarasota, Florida this fall and winter.

“I can’t say enough about the hands-on aspect of their teaching,” says Debbie Redmond, a Sea Sense student from Annapolis. “Women need to know how to maneuver their boats.  Sea Sense gave me such confidence in handling a large boat – handling, docking and maneuvering.”

Classes will be held on board a comfortable, fully-equipped, 42’ twin-engine trawler. The curriculum includes boat handling in open water, close-quarters maneuvering, docking, anchoring, navigation, basic engine maintenance, line handling, knots, VHF radio procedures, safety, and man-overboard prevention and recovery.

“In 21 years of teaching powerboating, Sea Sense has created a great place for women to learn with their peers. Learning by doing – hands-on works!  These on-board classes build confidence and create new attitudes about boat handling and safety. You can learn and have fun at the same time – what could be better than that?” explains Capt. Patti Moore, co-founder of Sea Sense.

The three-day course is scheduled for: October 22-24, November 12-14, and December 3-5, 2010. In 2011, this course will be offered January 14-16, February 18-20, March 18-20, April 15-17, and May 13-15.

The cost for the 3-day course is $1,995, which includes instruction, on-board accommodations, all docking and fuel costs and most meals. Always included at no extra charge, is a large dose of fun, camaraderie and adventure.
