Kadey-Krogen Yachts’ Krogen 66′ & Krogen 70′ Models Are New Trawler Territory

The Krogen 66′ and Krogen 70’ projects were driven by customer interest in an even more spacious raised pilothouse design with increased hospitality. For many owners, the pilothouse is not only the navigation and systems control center of their yacht but a social center as well. With an expanded U-shaped pilothouse settee, larger table and a penthouse-like view, the Krogen 66’ and Krogen 70’ have real game room potential. And with family and friends aboard, no matter the dish or occasion, there can be no better venue to prepare meals, snacks and hors’ d’oeuvres than in the truly home-like galley of these new models—fully equipped with full-size, top-of-the-line appliances including a six burner commercial range. Plus, the massive galley is open to the saloon with a breakfast bar. Opposite the galley is a wet bar with easy access from the cockpit, saloon and pilothouse.

Kadey-Krogen Yachts principal and vice president of operations Tom Button has enjoyed launching three successful vessels since joining the company in 2000, and has benefitted by working with Krogen 58’ customers for more than a decade to design another legacy with Kadey-Krogen naval architect Dave Glasco. “The details of the Krogen 66’ and Krogen 70’ have incorporated all the best features of the Krogen 58’ and produced an owner-operated vessel with even more flexibility and accommodations for the cruising lifestyle than I could have ever first imagined,” said Button.

The Krogen 66′ is available in either a mid-master or master forward layout with a total of two or three staterooms and with access to the flybridge from within the pilothouse. Standard layout includes full beam amidships master stateroom with walk-around king berth and ensuite head with his and her sinks, forward guest stateroom with queen berth, port cabin with twin berths, guest head to starboard, and day head next to galley. In contrast, the Krogen 70’ has an option for a fourth cabin arrangement and nicely finished crew quarters as well.

The new semi-custom flybridge layout of the Krogen 66’ and Krogen 70’ have multiple configurations that incorporate a comfortable settee and an added entertaining space. Flybridge wet bar and summer kitchen are standard.

“Impressively, the Krogen 66’ and Krogen 70’ models are powered only by twin 231 hp Tier III John Deere® engines,” said Larry Polster, principal and vice president, Kadey-Krogen Yachts. “And because of their engineered fuel efficiency, we achieve the desirable cruising speeds in their class, but using 25 percent less power. Quality and efficiency is in every detail.”

Walk-in engine room, fuel polishing, oil exchange and fire suppression are also standard. Other major systems, such as stabilizers, hydraulic bow thruster and air conditioning are standard. And, like all Kadey-Krogens, the hull is built using vinylester and isophthalic resins, knytex mats and US-made Cook® UV-protected gel coat to protect the investment. To absolutely ensure hull integrity, critical areas of each and every yacht are reinforced with a special impact-resistant fiberglass mat containing Twaron®, the same fiber used to give body armor “bullet-proof” capability. Kadey-Krogen is among the few boat builders who provide this level of hull reinforcement.
