EYC Junior Sail Program

If you were to ask Google, “What is the average age of yacht club members?” the answer would likely be around 55 and over. However, for those attending the JSP Awards Night and Fundraiser 2023 at the Etobicoke Yacht Club, the answer wouldn’t be quite so straightforward. On that night, everyone who came to EYC would have witnessed an abundance of youthful faces – children, teenagers, and their joyful families.

It was a special evening, especially for those who had undergone youth sailing lessons during the summer. The gathering aimed to celebrate their achievements and mark the end of a successful sailing season.

The event kicked off with an Awards Ceremony, accompanied by the tunes of a Live Band. Attendees enjoyed a hearty Burger Fest Dinner and engaged in various games suitable for all ages. The occasion also included a Silent Auction, Basket Raffle, Bake Sale, and an Ice Cream stand, all contributing to raising funds for the Junior Sail Program in the upcoming year.

Who’s invited? People often ask what age should kids start sailing? Well, while some children have been on boats since they were very young, most start learning the fundamentals of sailing between the ages of 7 and 10. if you’re aged 7 to 17, you’re more than welcome to be a part of this adventure, whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who’s tasted the thrill of sailing before.

JSP instructors? They’re the real deal – nationally certified and fully insured by Sail Canada and Ontario Sailing. They’re here not just to teach, but to share their deep passion for sailing. And guess what? They’re right there on the water with you, living the exhilarating curriculum right alongside you. Many of them even participate in club racing, showcasing their sailing prowess and inspiring you to reach new heights.
